Health and Safety Officer: Physical Fitness

Hosted by Orlando Willis. To understand the need for physical fitness in the fire service, the health and safety officer should know how physical fitness programs have developed, what the results of such programs should be, and how to develop a task analysis of the jobs performed by a firefighter. In addition, knowledge of the fire department physician’s duties and responsibilities is as important as the knowledge of the performance requirements for firefighters in their daily tasks. Other areas that the health and safety officer must be familiar with are the requirements for annual physical fitness evaluations, medical evaluations and examinations, and keeping of medical records on all personnel.
